Foundation for Excellence in Education Releases Digital Learning Report Card
posted by: Alana | May 19, 2015, 03:40 PM

The Foundation for Excellence in Education released the 2014 Digital Learning Report Card last month. The report details state policies on digital learning based on their alignment to the 10 Elements of High-Quality Digital Learning.

What’s unique about this report card is how it highlights each states attempt to create opportunities for students and their ability to produce innovative environments in which digital learning can help students thrive.

The key takeaway here is that no one legislative cycle and no single policy can take credit for the ebs and flows of quality digital education in the U.S. In fact, states have tweaked 422 education policies over the past four years alone.

Here’s a summary of the report:

  • 2 states - Florida and Utah - received A grades;
  • 50% of the states improved their grades overall;
  • 14 states moved up one letter grade; and
  • 9 states moved out of the "F" category.

You can also virtually check and compare the academic progress of students, using the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) tests and the Foundation for Excellence’s National Report Card.

AAE is in support of any legislation that paves the way for new and innovative learning environments, including virtual schools. Further, we support the expansion of virtual and blended education.

In fact, according to our 2015 national survey, 68% of AAE members support a blended learning environment where students spend part of the day with a teacher and part of the day working with a computer at their own pace so that teachers can spend more time planning and offering higher quality instruction.
